I just published an updated version 2.3, which fixes some of the recent issues that popped up,
including special characters in the path and ArtSmart Paste on Windows 8.

For a full changelog, check the first post in this thread.

I can verify that past from illustrator works with v2.3 on Windows 8.1

Thanks Rick for an awesome plugin!

I just upgraded to 2.3 and now it doesn’t work at all.  Does anyone else have a problem with the upgrade?

Get the Object and load an .ai file (which worked perfectly in the previous version of CV)  Nothing.

Please check the console (Shift-F10) for any errors. You can right-click, choose Copy All, and paste here. That’ll help me track down the issue.

Also, are you on Windows or Mac? Which version of Cinema 4D?

I am Running C4D v15.057   Build RC89143.

I am on a Power Mac 12 Core running 10.8.5.  12GB Ram

Using the previous version of CV Art Smart I am able to open and work with any .ai files.

When I remove the old version, install v2.3 and restart C4D I try to load the same .ai file but nothing shows up.  When i click “Show Hierarchy” nothing happens. There is no hierarchy

I have attached a word file with the console readout.

Thanks

It looks like you just need to refresh your symbolcache. This is a funky issue with updating Python plugins that’ll be resolved with the upcoming CV-Toolbox Installer. In the meantime:
- Open the C4D prefs window (Ctrl-E)
- Click the button in the lower left to Open Preferences Folder
- In the finder window, navigate to the prefs subfolder
- Find the file named “symbolcache” and delete it
- Restart CINEMA 4D

Let me know if for some reason that doesn’t fix the problem.

Thanks Rick

That did the trick.

I do have a question though.  I am working in CV ARTSMART.  I have about 5 Lines of text.  Create Materials.

I decided to go into the layers tab and add separate materials for Roundings and Caps which I need to do one at a time for each Letter/Path.

After doing all the letters I change something in .ai and RELOAD.  All my material changes disappear and I have to do them over.

Is there a way to stop this from happening?

Also, sometimes the Layers in the layer tab disappear after a RELOAD

I had the same problem, on my Mavericks Mac and C4D R15.
Deleting the symbol cache solved it. Puuh.. grin

Hi Rick,

Sorry if this has already been addressed and I just didn’t find the answer but . . .
. . . I’m able to apply different materials to the imported layers such as wood or metal but I can’t seem to keep them. Once I save the file and re-open it all of the layers change back to their original colors.
Can I do this or do I need to convert my ArtSmart objects to polygons in order to make the material stick.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Frank,

Is the AI file changed at all? I’ll try to reproduce this on my end.

Hi Rick,

No change made in the ai file.
The elements are on separate layers.
I may just be doing it wrong.

Thanks!

Rick, I’m unable to get CV-ArtSmart to work properly.  I’m running a simple test using just 2 layers from illustrator, some outlined text and a random shaped I created with a closed path.  When I try using the CV-ArtSmart Object and load my file, I get nothing.  However, if I use CV-ArtSmart Import and load my file it brings it in just fine.  Anytime I try and use object or the import with “create Object” option on, it does not work.  I can only import the file… very strange.

Here’s my specs:

-Windows 7 pro 64bit
-Illustrator CC 2014, although I did try Illustrator CC and same result and have tried saving as several different versions
-Cinema 4D R 15.057 Studio
-CV-ArtSmart V2.3

There’s nothing funky with the ai file, simple 2 layers using RGB. I’ve tried no compression, with compression, no PDF Compatible, with PDF,etc.

I’ve re-installed the plugin a couple of times, so not sure whats the deal.

Rick, I think it’s fixed now.  I followed the above instructions about deleting the “symbolcache” in the preferences folder and everything seems to be working and I can now use the CV-ArtSmart Object.  Figured I’d leave my last post in case someone else is having the same issue.  I’m assuming if this happens again I should just delete that out again ?
