XPresso question: How to create a “Noise based Wiggle”

Hi again-I created a noise [removed] with much help ! ), attached to a null, and referencing a cube-I want to ” wiggle ” this cube with a noise node-so far so good; but if I move the cube in the scene, it bounces back to it’s original place in the scene-with the Xpresso active, i can not move the cube, unless I deactivate the Xpresso tag -there must be a way to move the cube without deactivating the Xpresso tag . I have attached the file. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you, Craig
PS-the file, wiggle-expression2.c4d is in the dropbox, public folder, thank you

Hi Craig,

I’m not certain that I can follow completely: “...I created a noise [removed] with much help ! )”.

If you place something in a Drop Box, you need to deliver the URL of YOUR public folder, otherwise—I don’t know where it is. Every Dropbox user has his/her own Public folder, it is not a single folder that everyone knows.

There is “Object Manager>Tags>Cinema 4D Tags>Vibrate Tag” available which does this job already (In case I was able to follow at all)

All the best

Hi Dr. Sassi, I just ” copied public link”, if this doesn’t work, I will try again. Yes, I know about the vibration tag, but with this option, the vibration is more random. What I will do is, if you can not locate my file in dropbox, due to my ineptness ; (, i will post a screen shot of my Xpresso nodes-thanks again, sorry if I wasted your time, CZ

Hi Craig, would you mind sharing the public link, I can’t paste it from your copy operation only.

I have merged the two threads.

Again, if you copy a link on your machine, it will not help anyone. You need to share the link.

Sorry, what is the URL of your file.

Please test the link that you give by clicking on it.

I do not need the “How to use the Public folder.rtf”
I need the URL from your document.

To my knowledge, and I do not use Drop Box:  In your public folder, find the file you like to share and rich mouse click on it, there should be the option to get the URL/Link.

To your image, if you use a Global position, this is the absolute position in the C4D world space. Even if that is under a Null or any other object, it will ignore the parent position and take the Global position.
If you use just the “Position” it should work with a parent to move this object.

If you feed a single value in a vector port, the resulting movement will always be a “diagonal” from the positive quadrant to the negative quadrant of the C4D space. (Which can be rotated or moved with a parent, but the movement will be less attractive.

Thanks, I will try this option. And thanks for your patience. I want to pursue the Dropbox option, it’s been a while since I’ve used it, obviously, and feel bad about spinning your wheels needlessly, Craig

You’re welcome Craig.

If something is not working, we try to get working. No time wasted, the forum is there to find something suitable, if it needs time—that’s OK with me.

For me XPresso consists out of three parts, the formats in the pipes, the nodes and the idea one has. The formats in the pipes, or call them wires, are not that many. To know the difference is a key to get working solutions. The nodes are more difficult, but become easier if learned step by step. Ideas and the mathematical imagination is a longer story, and hard to teach in a few tutorials. ;o)

Have a great day
Sassi

Hey Craig,

So this workflow is now established. (I’m not certain, but do you had problems to attach it here in the forum as zip file, it is not that big, so I don’t understand the whole Drop-box idea for this file)

The movement that you create can be done with the Vibrate tag, set a Seed value, leave the regular pulse off, and adjust the frequency. Same thing.

In the file I would suggest to set up the noise for each Pos.Y, Pos.X and Pos.Z. The same for Rot (all three axis as well) Not Global!

Also here the Seed value for each channel in the noise 9You might end up with six Noise nodes, should differ. With such an set up you might have more control than with the Vibrate tag alone.
I have used the Vibrate tag on Null objects and placed such Null objects in a hierarchy. that gave me the option to have a rough movement and a finer movement inside the rough one. The first time I used this was in 2005 in the pre-production to a feature film called Europa (PXC) to simulate a subjective camera move.

All the best
