body face rig combined lag

Dear Dr Sassi,

It seems my struggle with rigs has not ended yet. After solving the PSD problems with your help i now run into another one. When combining the C4D face rig and its attached mesh with the body rig and its mesh through a transform constraint some controllers of the face lag when moving the body. I thought it was a priority issue with the constraint but experimenting with different settings does not solve the lag. Could you please have a look at the scene file I sent? A screenrecording of the issue might help too https://vimeo.com/758529042/d02b10ea4b

Hi Philip,

Please check out this series: (Here, I point to the part of your question, but this is a must-watch series from a to z)
https://www.cineversity.com/vidplaylist/face_rig_tutorial/face_rig_tutorial_-_attaching_the_face_to_a_body

It is done by a professional and seasoned Character Animator so that you can trust this material; seasoned for me means it is not just a do this do that series, as we sadly find it so often all over the place. He knows the points that can go wrong in production and will not point you to those dead-end procedures. Enjoy this material; it is a gem.
I would, at that point, have both rigs editable to gain more performance.

Dear Dr Sassi I must have watched that series at least 20 times i think. Very informative but it does not explain why certain points of my face rig lag when moving the body. Making both rigs editable still results in a lag of a part of the face, checked the weighting and normalised for good measures with no effect on the lag. What could be the cuase here? Can you point me in a direction?

Hi Philip,

If I get you set up correctly, you have the advanced character in use and the face Rig.

I do not have your rig here, so I have to assume (or guess!) that after you have set the priority and experienced problems, the parts inside the face rig have not been adjusted. Hence they delay their actions.

Let us test this:

Set the Transform Constrain to Expression 0.
Then set Face Rig Parent Null a Shift Priority Tag. Set this to 70 and perhaps adjust from there. Again, this is a guess here.

I think you get the connection point from the tutorial, but since it is the Advanced Character, it doesn’t work like the Artista Bust from the Asset browser. As all other parts now have an earlier priority, hence they use the data from at least a frame before.

All the best
