Hello

I’m trying to achieve an effect where I have a central object (here a tree), where points I select on the tree connect to points I select on some geometry surrounding the tree.

I’ve tried using CV-Catenary to do this, but unfortunately it creates two “hanging” points, so the connection seems strange as there is no intermediate point.

Is there a way to draw a spline between a point on the tree and a point on the boxes around it and then achieve a “sagging” effect?

Thanks!

Hi Alex,

Would you mind sharing the scene file with the three-point sagging, so I can take a look at it? I can’t reproduce your problem here.

I have had set up snapping and drew the spline, click and click. Then I placed it under a CV-Catenary, and it works.

Cheers

P.S.: Alex, I have tested some ideas, and I think this is the fastest way to get these wires from three to the cubes. It can be adjusted later on or even expanded, perhaps reduced.
I hope that little one minute clip makes sense.

Hey Sassi!

That’s a great trick!  Super fast to do too!
I think I’m having bugs with Cv-catenary, in the scene where I’m using it the splines jump to a different point when I make them childs of the catenary, and do this double hanging point thing.  Going to try to start from scratch with your technique, seems like a great way to do it!

Thanks!

Hi Alex,

Perhaps reinstall the plugin or just restart Cinema 4D and try in a new scene. This might help to gain some ideas about what happens.

If nothing helps, here is a complete manual workflow. Please note that you could rotate, move the shape giving spline. Perhaps even deform then before, to get a nice variety. OR even after a few are set, change one or all of the defining spline to create a more natural distribution of the new cross-sections.

P.S.: Selecting vertices of large quantities of splines might be faster with this method.

Wow, I just learned two really great tricks in this thread.  Amazing, gonna try to get Cv-catenary to work, and if not these techniques are more than perfect.

Thank you!!
