animation of wings

Hello,

For my project i made a butterfly.
But, if I want to animate the wings (in the coörd. manager with the bank) the animation itself looks good! But, something strange is happening with the texture on left wing.

I tried several projection types, and I made a null object, so the symmetrie is not the problem (i guess?!), but still, the wing is acting strange. Like there is some camera mapping going on. I tried to avoid the symmetry, but with no succes.

I really want to animate the butterfly in a bigger project, so hope it can be solved.

thanks in advance.

Hi Annet,

The Wings need to have UV as projection. There is an option to Stick a texture to an object, but that is not advised. (will create another post later today to show you how easy it is to turn the Flat projection into a UV for this case.)

Here is your file back
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/SMKjCZvN44EzwXzMX46FBYwXUY0w5YGJJacDM3yaHYv

Please note that the fixed texture file is file 01. The file 11 has a UserData slider on the object “wing animation”. Click on that object, go to the Attribute Manager, and there to the User Data. Animate the wings from there.
Typically the butterflies are so lightweight that moving the wings lifts the body to a certain degree or vice versa. This is what I had set up here.

All the best

P.S.: as mentioned, here is a little clip, showcasing the Flat to UV(W) conversion. Whereby the Flat project has to sit perfectly (visually) so the conversion can take that information and create the UVW information needed. Just setting any material without the orientation to flat and apply this will not work.

Flat means that perpendicular “rays” will be sent up from that plane. I marked it in the clip with a single Arrow.

I know that a common suggestion is to use the Pin Material Tag, but I can’t stress enough to learn UV mapping, as it will allow for so much more control.
