after adding more polygons to my simple object, to add more detail, the procedural scratches on my material are now in the wrong places. How would I quickly realign(?) or correct them?
Using node material with scratch generator in R23.
Thanks for the files; project files have so much more to offer than images!
The problem is that the UV wasn’t updated. Select all polygons of the main enclosure (pedal 4.5) and use the UV Box Projection, which will be the same as in your earlier version.
One tip, you use UV for Context quite often. If you use a lot of repetition based on UV nodes, render times will go up instead of scaling down the Noise.
With this “Gold Galvd” material, I could improve the render time for the Pedal box alone in the scene to nearly half the time.
Hi, thanks very much for looking at this and your patience. I will give this a try and also your tip about the UV contexts…I was trying out lots of options regarding the material and did not even think about the render time pile up!
Best wishes.
I love the UV nodes, and they can help to create some fascinating results (even little planets )
I collect data on how to optimize Redshift 3D, not targeting the app itself, but where one can help get the best out of it. Hence why I love your setup; it showed me a certain way to explore those nodes.
I love project files for that alone; I learn so much from them, how people think, what they ignore, and so on. Of course, I do that only to “pay forward” later. I certainly have some habits that might lower the speed, just to be fair.

Hi, I think I’ve missed a step or something since I’m not seeing the right result. I solo-ed the Scratches.1 (in the Bump Map channel) and selected all the polygons, then at the “Gold Galvd met” material tag level I reselected UWV Mapping for the Projection. No change unfortunately. Perhaps I’m focusing on the wrong element?
Based on your reply, I assume the UV polygons are not updated to your Polygon changes. You need to do that in the UV Edit. This can’t be done in the Node system nor in the Material tag. When these polygons in the UV editor are selected, use the Project Box.
Ok, this fixed the Dust input channel but not the Scratch bump map. Perhaps the UV context on the bump channel scratch complicates the situation and possible solution? The Dust channel had no UV context in place…
Please check your Private Message; I have sent you the file. Without file, I don’t know what you are seeing/doing.
Please solo everything and let me know if I missed something.
Yes, I have deleted the second UV tag. UV tags are used RIGHT SIDED from the material. Also, if you have more than one UV tag in the scene, rename it, so you know what is what after opening a file maybe a year later.
We celebrate Juneteenth here in the U.S., so I might answer tomorrow if there is anything else.
