Slide or Smooth Edges - Slide on Constraint Tool (Modelling)

Hi,

I have a problem with smoothing or sliding the edges that should only run on other edges, in the past I always used the free plugin Kyama Slide for this, but unfortunately this no longer works with newer versions of C4D.

My question is: what is the best way to move the edges from state A to state B (screenshot), something like “Slide” but on Constraint Tool?

Thank you in advance

Hi Modado,

This would be the Slide tool:
https://help.maxon.net/r23/en-us/Default.htm#html/XSLIDETOOL-MDATA_MAINGROUP.html

Personally, I wouldn’t go that route. I have recorded three different ways. The first one being a sloppy one for a quick fix. Not my favorite.
The second and the third version are pretty much the same, except one uses standard objects, the other method a spline guide retrieved from the object.

It depends on what is given in each set up of course.

Hello Dr. Sassi,
thank you for your effort, unfortunately it is still a very complex way to fix the geometry.
I found C4D 16 on my old computer where the plug-in still works, that would be the way with Kyama Slide:

There is still no such thing as Kyama Slide in C4D?
Best regards

Thanks for the update,

You might suggest this centered-relax feature to Maxon here:
https://support.maxon.net/open.php

From looking at your image (a scene file is always better, BTW.) I would assume that the problems are based on a particular extrude method.
If the base for the extruded area is flattened before, those problems do not show up; another way is below:
Please have a look here: (I have exaggerated the problem here!)

I think that can avoid the problem predominately from the start. Minor fixes might be needed, though.

I’m not sure, but perhaps the NitroRelax from nitro4d.com can help. Just a guess, no guarantees.

All the best

Thanks for your time, modado!

I’m not sure how much the Relax Deformer would help, combined with a Restrict tag containing the point selection that needs this treatment.

How is the mini extrude and then pull option working for you?

Cheers
