Separate fillet and cap in R21

Does anyone know if it’s possible to retain the previous ability to have just a fillet without cap in extrusions/loft etc. I’m finding opening older models that have just fillets in 21, the fillet edge disappears. It was a really neat feature, and the new cap system rocks but would rock better if it could do this.

Hi nick.kiey,

As you have mentioned, older files will provide this option in R21. If you load older files into R21, than you will see a Migrate button in the Caps Tab (Attribute Manager), that. This indicates that the options are given (for now) to have that functionality with older project files., or to update older files.

Since the new Cap functionality has cleaned up with a lot of the problems of the older version, the separation is not part of it.

You can, however, set up an Alpha material with a specific selection to visually exclude the caps. Not ideal (it requires all other materials for this object to be specified with Selections as well), but I have not found another option. (Besides making it editable and delete the N-Gon cap).

Perhaps voice you wish here (Suggestion)

Can we translate the achievements in this tutorial, in any way, utilizing the new cap tools in R21? The is a great tutorial, and a basic and useful function. https://youtu.be/ePPhLqrPvLg In other words, this tutorial shows how to make a box lid that contains filet caps and a hollow box cover that renders very cleanly. Is it easy to achieve identical results using the new (and certainly more powerful) tools for caps?

Thanks for the feedback, salerno.john.

I’m glad that worked. Let me know if you have anything else. I’m happy to look into it.
