Motion Tracker Footage

I’ve downloaded all the the footage files and none of them will load in the Motion Tracker. Don’t have a problem loading any other footage, just these files don’t work.

C4D R16.027
Mac OS 10.9.5

Also the files play fine in VLC and QT.

Hi Jim-H,

I just downloaded all the files to check it.
I can reproduce the same result here with MACOS 10.9.5 and C4D R16.027. See [left] image.

You might get into contact with the support. http://www.maxon.net/support/support-questions.html
However, the Picture Viewer in R16 as well in R15 isn’t able to open it, which seems rather odd, and lead me to the idea that something outside of C4D might cause it.

My workaround, I loaded the mp4 footage into After Effects and exported it with no change as JPG sequence. (I’m not a fan of JPG nor 8bit/c, but the format was only mp4, and JPG will work fine for the tracking at 100%-Quality of course.) Works fine, see [right] image.

Set the time for the project as a sequence has no idea about.

This works fine. If you encounter any other problems, please let me know.

All the best

Sassi

Thanks. I’ve submitted the issue to Maxon support.

I’ve re-encoded the files with AME as mp4 and now they load just fine.

You’re welcome, Jim-H!

Thanks as well to share your solution. Fantastic, I hope it was quickly done.

I guess the files provided for this series will be replaced with well tested ones.
Again: Sorry about your trouble.

Have a great Sunday

Greetings Jim-H,

Thank you for pointing out this problem. We were able to reproduce your errors as well. I am glad you were able to find a workaround in the meantime.

We have replaced the mp4 with quicktime files. These new videos should work correctly.

Cheers,
~Michelle

Hi,

any news to this problem?
In R17 - I still can not use mp4 or similar video footage. Only single frames are working.
Because of my work with other video editing, DVD authoring and 3D software, I have all necessary codecs installed (playing, recording and creating).
My 4k camera special creates an lower resolution copy at the same time for use with motion tracker software…
Converting to single frames is no solution and workaround!

Hi Alex Demeo,

I just tried mp4 footage and it loaded. If you can share a little clip, I will check.

You might check with the support. http://www.maxon.net/support/support-questions.html

A workaround is certainly given with image sequences, hence the name. (I agree, a solution would be better :o)

If the camera’s sensor is just 4K and Bayern pattern based with a lossy (?) mp4 compression, I might would down-sample anyway. If your project requires 4K or perhaps UHD as delivery. Or do you use camera above 5K?

All the best

I did a motion tracker with the footage and works fine, I also see a different workflow using after effects to make motion tracker on this site…

This is not a free course. So, I’m not really certain if that is advertisement or just a friendly suggestion based on your findings, Leory.

Do you like to share if you are connected to anyone in this course?

Thanks a lot, Leory.

Please, really no “sorry” needed. I have to make sure it is not advertisement, otherwise others feel free and entitled to spam the forum, if we let things slip here. :o)

OK, let’s start over:

Thank you Leory for supporting artists with a language preference in Portuguese!

Sounds better, right?...  and sorry from my side to take your time.

My best wishes.
