Move, scale and rotate with keyboard shortcuts

Hi there.

Is there a way to limit moving, scaling and rotating objects, edges etc. to a particular axis with keyboard shortcuts instead of using the arrows?

I know this from Blender where you for example can type ‘G’~‘X’ to limit movement to the x-axis and then drag the object with the mouse.

Using the arrows is very cumbersome and time-consuming.

Thanks

Hi Meyex,

That would be X, Y, and Z. OR the icons as in the image below.

However, if you click on the specific axis directly, you can move, rotate or scale the object.

Is that what you had in mind

All the best

Hi Dr. Sassi,

thanks for your quick reply.

I tested it ...  Ok, it works this way. Not really perfect, but it’s ok.

Is it possible to type in something like this:
‘E’~‘X’~‘2.5’ and the object/point/edge etc. moves 2.5 units along the x-axis?
or
‘R’~‘Z’~‘30’ and the object/point/edge etc. rotates by 30° around the z-axis?

As you might guess, I am a big fan of keyboard shortcuts wink

Hi Meyex,

If you have any parameter (field) selected, you can type in x=25 whereby the x stands for the value that is there already and its adds 25 to it. That could be also done with * / + -
The rotation around an axis, again here, the parameter works as if you would adjust the numbers in that field.

In the moment a parameter field is given, and formula can be used. See appendix in the Help content.
https://help.maxon.net/us/#6194

If you scroll down a little bit, you find some more tips, even to be used with many objects that share the same parameter

“The following variables are available:
x: Represents the parameter’s original value
num: Represents the index value. The selected elements/objects will be numbered
tot: The total number of selected elements/objects
rnd(value): A random value between 0 and “value” will be ascertained”

However, if you are looking for a short cut that allows for an input without using the parameter fields, I guess there is none.

All the best

P.S.: Snapping might be worth to look into it as well.
