object buffer for hair

I’m trying to get a OB for hair and I saw this in a previous discussion…

You can switch the Render option in the Hair Render tab to Raster (Post) - then you’ll get a Multi-Pass tab where you can set the Alpha to Separate. Then if you create a Multi-Pass for Post Effects, you’ll get an Alpha layer for the hair.

I don’t see a “Raster (Post” in the Hair render?

Other tips on getting an OB for hair?  Working on v17studio

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,

You need to switch on the Post Effect to get a clean result with the Object Buffer in R17.  The Compositing Tag sits “on” the hair object. Hair Mulitpass Alpha is on. I notice that the AA off is better. The Hair Alpha will be created, but perhaps ignore it.

The Hair>Multipass option is not available in Physical Render.

If you encounter problems that indicate a code based problem, please check this with the support.

The Render Settings >Hair> Multi-Pass> Alpha> Separate is a different story. I do not get with R17 the result that I get as with R18.

I assume that you like to stay in “Hair Mode”, instead of being in Attribute Manager>Generate>[Generate] Type>”…” which would enable other options, e.g., Circle allows for great results, but do some tests, and adjust perhaps the Attribute Manager> Hairs> Guides.

You can see the effect in this clip here, one minute:

The Raster option as in R12, 13, etc., is gone.

P.S.: The Object Buffer works in most cases, but I found some exceptions, so I would like to share one more, which is (per your request) possible with R17.

You certainly know how to use the Token for naming takes and how to “batch” render all takes at ones.

A one minute clip going through the parts involved:

I hope that works for all possible cases

All the best
