Hi there,

I have a curious question .. I have a

Mac Pro 2010 (2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon, 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ECC, ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB) on my team render

and the newer design

Mac Pro 2013 (3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5, 32 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC, AMD FirePro D500 3072 MB

I’m rendering 5-6 mins per frame on the older Mac Pro and 8-10 on the newer.

I closed everything I could and watched the activity monitor on the newer Mac and the only real processing was the team render .. Really confused why this is happening.

Would love some thoughts or insight?

Thanks!
Bill

Hi Bill,

Try this:
https://www.maxon.net/en-us/products/cinebench/

Even many parts of the equation will play a critical role here, but your 2010 has 2x2.566x6=~32GHz and the 2013 has 21GHz. I know, two complete different CPUs, like comparing apples and oranges.

I hope CineBench can give you some insight, perhaps google about listings of Cinebench results to compare.

All the best

Thanks for the link, Bill, it depends, each scene might have a different need.

Some [pre-] calculations are only possible with one core, and others are more heavy on the RAM side, some might be more average on all, etc.

I hope you can enjoy your render-set up anyway.
