Projection Mapping Edge

I dont really know what to call this. But is there a way to remove the grey edge in the attached pic?

http://i.imgur.com/vE0hNM2.png

I have a video projected onto geo with alpha. Wanting to just keep the projected geo visible but the grey edge to go or to just hide the geo.

Tried having a transparent material first then adding the video material with mix textures on. Probably barking up the wrong tree.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Jaemie,

I can’t see an image, was it larger than 800w*600h?

Anyway, please use this upload link:
https://www.dropbox.com/request/uD0ctS3TVXkhkC5pQASc

Without having seen it, I would guess that you need an alpha (you wrote alpha, but what is it) channel for this, or it is projected in a way that only the front receives the data and perhaps some geometry behind is showing.

I hope I can solve it when I see the image.

All the best

Hey, Dr. Sassi.

Just edited the post. Yeah was larger wink

Currently its the only material on the geo. I’ve tried projecting both / front / back and all the same issues.

EDIT: I lie. Only Both / Front projection works

Jaemie, I will leave the upload link open if you like, so you can upload the project file as well, please only the parts in it that cause trouble, but with the images!

This looks more like a point cloud from NUKE…

Or is the “pointillism” wanted?

Let me know what I can get from you.

Saw you edit, but I’m not more certain what it is. I hope I get something to explore :o)

I’ll strip the project down and supply a ‘lighter’ texture than the quicktime file.

Yeah the images are porjected onto a particle cloud.

Onto particles, so the QT would cover it, which makes me wonder what the alpha is used for.

Yes, just one frame from the QT and anything needed to reproduce the unwanted effect.

I will stay tuned, but take your time!

:o)

Uploading now.

It could just be my ignorance on what is actually possible and that I’m doing things the wrong way. But my thinking was that the alpha should ‘cut’ out the geo / just make it black. In saying all of that I did for awhile have the alpha turned off and it was still doing it. Making the alpha redundant. So the alpha thing is probably got nothing to do with it as you said.

As for the QT ‘covering’ the geo. Its position in the ‘best’ place possible to projection legibility on the particle cloud (hope that made sense).

So the QT only covers the bits that is needed. Then im left with the excess geo which essentially has no projection, just geo with no material I guess.

I’m hoping there is a potential work around for it. Otherwise I’m guessing I may have to physically remove the excess geo?

Which will be a pain in the butt as there are 6 of them each with different projections

So, I hope this is the solution, Jamie.

Thanks for the file, I think I see the problem, correct me if I don’t!

The alpha that you have used works, but only for the projected area.
Edit, while you wrote I prepared the file, so the idea what’s going on is perhaps already clear :O) /edit

Since the projection camera is in front of the render camera, the image and with that the alpha is smaller. I placed a Plane there to explore the situation for a moment, the plane is not needed, but it helps to get clear about the problem, see image)

What you need to do is, set left sided from the material, a new additional material, set to Color black, and Alpha completely to transparent. No other channel on, even the Color could be off. However set this material in the texture Tag to tile. Leave your projection as it is, it is OK, so far I understand your target.

This will take the gray frame around the image away.

I can attach the file here if you like, or if you need it. Let me know.

My best wishes
