Hello,
I’m familiar with the stereoscopic settings in the render setting and on the camera’s - - is there a rig for output to the newer 180° top over bottom video formats used in the Oculus Rift, Gear vr and cardboard vR players?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Jamie

Thanks for updating your thread, Jamie.

Sorry about ignoring the “STET” mark.

I guess the best and most versatile pipeline would be via Unity.

Rick made a great Cinema 4D to Unity tutorial series.
(I have asked a friend to put some things together, as he owns the oldest interactive company to my knowledge on the East-Coast. He uses as well C4D with Oculus Rift set ups)

Complete 360ºx180º equirectangular videos might be better done with a “chrome-sphere” and the bake option. (C4D cameras do not work very well at 180º, 174º is the limit). I saw some people do stereo with equirectangular renderings, but I’m not without concerns if this will work flawlessly, if interactivity is the target. As the rotation of the head and the eyes do not match, i.e., it might produce some parallax shifts, which can’t be in a single file for one eye. To create 360ºx180º one needs to rotate around the lens nodal point, but the two cameras can’t do that at the same time.

Why this theme is interesting to me?
I did my diploma at the University of the Arts, Berlin in 1993 about this theme: VR immersive tech.

Anyway, I do not have any hardware to test anything here (HMD), so, I would love if you share more about your results.

My best wishes for your project
