Hair changing uncontrollably

Hi, I am kind of a newbie when it comes to using hair. I am trying to create plant roots using hair, but every time I go to another document and return, the hairs all move. I have attached the scene file. Ugh! What am I doing wrong?

I tried to upload a zipped scene file but got the error that it wasn’t the correct MIME format.

Hi Randy,

Please use this link to upload. I will disable the link after the file is in the “box”, if you have more files, let me know.

I will have a look into it. The images will hope fully make more sense to me after the file is on my screen.

All the best

Thanks, Sassi! I uploaded the file using your link. I am wondering if the problem is that I am growing hair upon hair.

Thank you, Randy, I got the file.

Please try this, open the file as you have send it to me, drag instantly the “Hair 2nd level.A” below the “001 Tap root” group.
Press the A key [refresh/redraw] several times. Is it stable now, even during rendering etc.?

If I press the A key in the way I got the file, it changes rapidly. So, my first impression is, this is a Priority Problem.

Let me know if that works for you.

My best wishes

P.S.: to be on the safe side, make the 2nd editable, then the other Hair Object, if that is possible for the scene.

Hah! I didn’t even think of priority, but it makes sense. So the backwards way I had the file ordered was the hair trying to reposition itself every time I came back to the file?

What do you mean by press the A key?

Thanks, Sassi!

Randy, the scene in the editor-view refreshes, but you can also refresh it with the A key, just the a key on the keyboard.

Any information that was not available after the process went one time per frame, the information goes to the next frame [during rendering] , etc. Hence the delay sometimes with priority problems. To refresh the scene means to take that “late” information as well into account.

In the editor view, one time refreshing would be not an option, but it doesn’t update if nothing else happen. IF that is the case, the A key can trigger a refresh, just to check the scene.
Normally each action, like adding an object, etc, refreshes the scene, hence the change, if not all information was available before.

In your scene that was the first I did, thanks to name it 2nd, which indicated to me something that made me do it. The refresh and priority “stuff” is not really a clear visual thing, so it is kind of tricky.

I hope that makes sense.

Let me know if all works now in the way you need it.

All the best

Thanks for the feedback, Randy! Very nice of you.

Yes, I know those situations, it works and it somehow doesn’t…

My best wishes for the project
