I like the new functionality of the polygon pen and the way the “reproject” option keeps me on my high-res mesh when doing retopo.  But one functionality that I keep wanting is to be able to brush many vertices at once along the high-res object’s surface…..I’ve tried to use snap with the brush, iron, sculpt tools etc….but I can’t seem to get it work.
Should it?
what settings would I need for that?

any other ideas on how to have a “brush” type effect on with “reproject” on?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ehmie,

The way to do it is to use the “Surface Deformer” and an appropriate Polygon Mesh (Appropriate means here that it contains a resolution that comes close to the expected needs of your target).  Then connect it with the Pen Tool for example.

The “Pen Tool” is certainly not equipped for that currently, but you might go ahead and suggest that to MAXON. http://www.maxon.net/support/suggestions.html

Another way—but more dependent on the source object is the option to project Splines onto a surface, which might be then connect to a mesh via a Loft [NURBS].

To answer your question, is there a brush-type option to paint many polygons/edges or even vertices at once: No there isn’t. One polygon at the time, but many in a row if needed.

Besides that, the “Polygon Reduction” function might be worth considering.

All the best
