Baking transparency results in white, opaque output

Hello,

Simple thing really.. or at least it should be.  I have a material I need to bake out.  It has an image loaded into the Luminance channel, and the transparency set to 84% so that another texture on an object behind can be seen through it.

So, I apply the bake texture tag, check Luminance and Transparency.  When single texture is not checked, the luminance file produced from the bake works fine, but the transparency file comes out as solid white.  If I select ‘single texture, the whole thing comes out as white.  It feels like this should be pretty straight forward, and this has me wondering if there is a bug, or perhaps there is something I have missed?

  Thanks in advance,
    - Will

Hi Will,

No idea about the Bug (if you think it is one, please check with the support, thanks), but try this: In the Transparency channel, instead of using the Brightness parameter, set up a “Color Shader” in the Transparency> Texture option, and set the Color in this Shader to your target, e.g., 84%.

I have tested “Single” and separate files as output, I get in both cases the value.

Do I miss something?  ...perhaps, let me know.

All the best

Ah… that may well be it.. I was using the brightness value.  I’ll have a go with your solution.

Thanks!

Hi Dr Sassi,

Well, strangely it did not.. I still received an opaque white output with this method.  Ultimately, I just baked out the luminance channel and added transparency in After Effects.  That may not always be the most effective route, but it was ok here.

Sorry to read that, Will.

I measured the result and it was ~84%, as the settings from my scene. All fine here.

As I can’t reproduce it here in the way you have it, I can only suggest to get into contact with the Support. This is out of my hands then, as we are not supposed to do technical support here.
