in ‘Cineware Party: Setting up Cameras’ tutorial, at 13:42 it shows selecting a 3d layer in AE and turn on TrkMat to uses a Cineware layer showing the Object buffer.

But in My comp, as soon as i turn on the 3d layer box my TrkMat options disappear.

My work around is to put everything into a pre-comp but i have 30 video inserts to do and this will generate a minimum of 30 extra comps.

IS this an AE bug or do i have something in my comp that is not allowing a 3d layer to use a TrkMat?

Hi Ryan Duff,

The tutorial “Setting up Cameras” is only 06:51 long. I assume you had the next clip already in the viewer “Cineware and Multipass Setup”

The Object Buffer from the C4D layer is 2D in Ae (but internally 3D) so that should stay. I think there we are OK.
The Movie in Rick’s scene, is set up to follow the object from the scene (the red plane—>extracted). On this object, or on the movie file, the track-matte option should stay intact.

You might share a little test scene, perhaps I miss a point here.

All the best

Sassi

I found the problem!

The 3d RENDER ENGINE in Aftereffects, needs to be set to ‘Classic 3D’  NOT “Ray-traced 3D”  The Ray-Trace engine does not calculate COMPOSITE IMAGING, so you loose Transfer Modes and TrkMat !

Everything utilizing Cineware works great!  its actually pretty freakin amazing.

Thanks,
Duff

Thanks for sharing. Never thought to mention it, sorry. As the Alert-window describes all of the limitations, while it is switched.

For Ae’s native ray-tracer one has to take some limitations into account, which will limit the success of the discussed procedure in the tutorial. As usual, tutorials on Cineversity should be based on default settings. Any change that is not discussed in the tutorial it self needs to be checked if a problem occurs.

The following features are not rendered by the Ray-traced 3D renderer: (Again, Ae’s render, not C4D)

• blending modes
• track mattes
• layer styles
• masks and effects on continuously rasterized layers, including text and shape layer
• maks and effects on 3D precomposition layers with collapsed transformations
• Preserve Underlaying Transparency
