Cloning attractors?

Is there a way to clone attractors? Scenario: I want to use a bunch of attractors, moving around, changing their strength or other parameters randomly or based on keyframes and a time offset. I’ve tried a workaround with xpresso and the Data function, but can’t make it work.
Many thanks for any suggestions.

Hi gremmler.

If you have a question, please with a scene file. Your description leaves a lot of guesses.
Just a project file, reduced to the problem. Anything else doesn’t tell me the whole story.
Zipped and attached here. I can provide an upload link, if needed.
(Amazon, Google, Adobe, Apple, Wetransfer, or Dropbox, any other cloud-service I will not touch)

Here is a little test

All the best

Hi Dr. Sassi,

Thank you for your prompt reply and the test scene. I guess it didn’t work in my case because I am using a spherical field on the Attractor. Example: https://www.dropbox.com/s/u6nfycsyyusnq6x/CV3_2023_drs_22_DYat_01 (field).c4d?dl=0

Many thanks for any suggestions!

...and I’m intended to use the attractor on hair, which seems not to work in a cloner even without fields: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pq8e7q179mfpkb3/CV3_2023_drs_22_DYat_01 (hair).c4d?dl=0

Hi gremmler,

Is there anything else I need to know?
So I can answer with what you need – if it is possible.

Please share an example file that has all parts in it.

I assume it needs to be a MoGraph file that creates the change of position and is then transferred to a list of objects via XPresso.

I’m happy to look into it in the morning. (It is close to midnight here, and I call it a day!)

Cheers

P.S.: Since this is my last day this year, I wanted to provide at least one solution for you. Well, I hope I have all the data for your project.

Please have a look here
https://www.dropbox.com/s/4fojl7g13e80u1y/CV3_2023_drs_22_HAff_01.c4d.zip?dl=0

The Matrix Object delivers the movement, but the force fields need to be produced as an object-by-object case, which is here done with 20 of them.

I have placed Selection objects in the file, so you can get quick access to the 20 objects at once if you like to adjust so together.

See you in the brand new forum.

Happy Holidays.

P.S.S.: If you look more for the effect than to focus on the Attractor object, this might be way simpler and faster to adjust

Thanks so much for your help and sorry for not sending the scene earlier. It contains some models I can’t disclose. Here is a simplified version: https://www.dropbox.com/s/cwwpzw22s7szlyi/attractor clones clean 01.c4d?dl=0
It uses a similar method method as you suggested. Wanted to link the intensity of the lights with the strength of the attractors. But the viewport playback gets really slow and I also wanted to retain the flexibility to change the amount of cloned attractors without adding or removing it’s instances. Maybe the Field approach can help. Love the idea! Many thanks again for having a look at it on your last day this year. Happy holidays!

Btw, I’m always facing frame delays when adding hair to cloners or wise versa. Tried changing the priority but never got it really playing in sync.

Thanks for the file, gremmler!

Don’t worry about not sharing the original scene; I get that. I’m not particularly eager to bother you with stuff that is not based on the whole “picture”, hence my question. I respect your time.

Yes, Object Index works as well and is faster to set up. I enjoy the Link list, as I can re-work the scene without losing the initial decision. It is a question of preference, I assume.

Two things might help (delay).
Suppose you have reached a state where you like to preview, render, and cache the MoGraph setup. The cache avoids recalculations and, more importantly, provides the data early on. This prevents some priority problems.

The second part is often not changing the outcome, but it is good practice to sort the XPresso Manager (see image, the initial information sits in the middle of the process). Typically it pulls data that is needed, but some data is unavailable, and with that, data from the frame before is used. Like the Object Manager, the top must be done first, then moving down. E.G., Hair below anything that affects it. It matters. But there is also the priority level. So it is not just a simple top to button. I call it the information flow. If that flow is clear, you can sort the scene. If all fails, there is a priority shift Tag that might push a group to a different level. Anyway, caching is the best way after sorting things, IMHO.

Cheers

BTW: Sorry, I don’t have Arnold, so I can’t see your complete setup.

With this, I call it a day (or a year) grin

Thanks for the Holiday wishes.

Enjoy!
