How to get an infinite floor with a Redshift Light Dome without the use of a backdrop?

Hi,

For a project, I need to have a scene where the object (a machine production lineup) is placed on an (almost) white ( or at least light) infinite floor.
I work in cinema4d 2023.1 and make use of a Redshift Light dome with an HDRI as texture. The background is switched off.
The background then gets black (makes sense). Usually, a backdrop solves the problem. Perfect for stills.

But I cannot use a backdrop because I need it for animation. The backdrop is always too short/too small and will limit me in camera movements.
That is why I would like to use an infinite floor.
Is there any other way to get this done without the use of a backdrop and without building walls or anything like this?

How do you guys solve this in your productions?

greetings
Georg

Hi Georg,

Would that work for you?
Just use a white Backdrop. wink

Alternative: To have the background as a mask/alpha and replace it later is not an option for you?

Let me know how it goes and which “Disc” object makes more sense to you (disc.0 or disc.1)

All the best

Hi Dr. Sassi,

Sorry for the late response. I was quite busy during the last few weeks.
Thank you for your help. I appreciate this very much!
I tried your suggestion. I noticed indeed that you suggest a clean white image as light dome texture.
But in that case, I miss the natural reflection of the environment in the objects
(which I solved by using an HDRI in the texture channel of the light dome in the first place).

Hi Georg,

The Dome Light has two options, and when you use both, you get what you like to have.

It is all based on the Domelight. Object settings.

Since you like to have a “white Studio, the reflections might look wrong. Perhaps alter the HDR to have the lower 1/3rd or even half of the HDR white and fade (gradient) to the image.

(Please note that I use the “.hdr” (Radiance), only to keep things small. I’m not suggesting using that format in production at all, at any time! Use properly developed OpenEXR instead with color-managed content.)

Happy New Year!
