As I continue to evaluate whether I want to subscribe to Redshift I’ve come across an apparent limitation that’s a bit frustrating.
Let’s say you’ve built an animation around the Redshift renderer. You render that out, send it to the client, and they like it except they want the timing changed.
It’s a 900-frame sequence, so rather than take 3-4 hours to render it all out again with Redshift I’ll output a Viewport render (what I used to call an Open GL Preview or Playblast) to quickly show the client the revised timing.
Unfortunately, once I select Viewport as the renderer all of the Redshift materials in my scene go black. Lame. The only way I can now see my objects is to turn off materials in the viewport options pulldown, making everything various shades of grey (or their layer colors if I set those up).
Am I missing something obvious, or is there no nice way around this limitation? I’m seeing all of these great colors and reflections in my live viewport when Redshift is selected as the renderer. It all goes away when I switch to Viewport.
Thank you.
