I have a question about redshift.

Within Cinema I work a lot with templates. These templates are very important in my work, they are large projects that I use repeatedly. It took me years to build these templates.
However, I would like to switch to redshift (I followed some workshops and I’m working on a good graphics card, but does this mean I have to rebuild all my projects? They are very large projects with hundreds of materials, it is almost impossible to start all over again.
I wonder; what is the most efficient way?

Moreover: I have bought hundreds of materials over the years, can these be used at Redshift again?

Before i make the step to redshift, Can someone tell me how to switch to Redshift?

The typical general tip given in one of the Redshift 3D series was rebuilding the materials from scratch. Again, it might be possible to convert many.

The easiest way is to use the render settings and switch to Redshift, which will provide an option to compare what you have rendered and what Redshift 3D will do with your projects. You asked in General, and I can say only “it depends”. Many things might not work, but perhaps they can be converted. That massive projects set up with Standard/Physical renderer work flawlessly in Redshift 3D is the exception.

Render options from Standard or Physical are not useable, like GI-render settings or caches are not transferred.

Materials can have a lot of data, shaders, and other parts, e.g., movie files (v. image sequences). The is also a chance to have 3rd party shaders inside. Redshift does not accept movie files, for example.

Always explore this on a copy.

The images show the Redshift entry in the Main Menu. That needs to be enabled in the Preferences> Renderer> Redshift> Redshift in Menu.

Redshift 3D is a renderer designed to be fast; With this all parts are optimized.

Hi Annet,

Fingers crossed that most of your materials are simple and can go through the process of converting the materials without harm.

But yes, not nice to have things a hundred or more times.

Before you start, the Redshift 3D XPresso material setup is increasingly replaced by the Node Editor of Cinema 4D. I hope that prevents some extra work.
