Under the Gun - Simple Question

I have the Pos, Scale & Rotate buttons on, I set a key frame for a cube, move down the timeline, scale the cube, create another key frame and when I play nothing happens.

If I move it, the cube moves, if I rotate it and move it the cube rotates and moves but when I add scale on the second keyframe, and hit rewind the entire animation uses the new scale property but won’t animate the scale.

I’ve tried clicking the red buttons next to pos, rot and scale properties, using the auto keyframe feature and nothing seems to work.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Hi racates,

If you open a new scene and just call up a cube and make exactly the move, rotate and scale steps, same behavior.

Could you please attach the scene file (zipped) here, so I can explore it. Just keep guessing and asking is not how I think it should work.

I can send an upload link (Please note, DropBox, Amazon, Google, Apple, Adobe, and Wetransfer [no shortened URLs] are used here for security reasons. Thanks for understanding)

A scene file hopefully will show me what happens.

Cheers

I agree. Interestingly enough that’s exactly what I did to test whether it was something with my file and I got the same result.

File Attached.

Thank you!

Thanks a lot for the file, rcates.

I really love scene files, more often than not, they just pinpoint what happens (or not wink)

If I can see it correctly, you scale in Model mode, which means that the Scale value in the Attribute Manager stays precisely one (or whatever was set!).

So, here is a little screen capture:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/0ZcV1CusAixOEj2e8LlH7BV0qY340td8DlL0V2SPgbW

• The first part, how it isn’t working. (But what works well to model)

• Object mode, how it should work

• PLA - how it could work, but not recommended if Object mode works

So, the question will be: What is the difference between Model and Object mode?

The model means the points get moved, which can put all points on a 0;0;0 positions. That would be the end of it, as no scale in the world can bring the shape back from that.

Object means that the scale is animated, and the points stay where they are, so one can scale it down to zero, but instantly with a larger (or negative scale even!), the shape will be back.

Check out the Model and Object mode, while the Structure Manager is open. It will show as mentioned above but is a useful memory device that does what.

PLA will set lots of limitations to the animation.

Let me know if there is anything else, I’m happy to look into it.

Cheers

Dr. Sassmannshausen

I attached the file as a .zip. Does that work? If not wetransfer is good for me.

Thanks a lot, rcates, for your reply.

It is something that I would consider a key element, but my experience is that it is widely ignored.

So, I’m glad you brought it up.

Yes, I saw and used the file from post #2, is there another file that I miss?

Have a nice day.
