UV Map oddity

Hello
I’m working on a model that was created in Agisoft Metashape, with a typical UV map that looks completely crazy.  There is a small area in the texture that I needed to paint over, so I opened the JPG from Metashape in Photoshop, and used BodyPaint to identify the area on the texture that corresponded to the parts that needed painting.
I did my painting on a separate layer, and saved as a PSD.  When I bring it back to C4d and just swap the texture in the same shader, with the same UV Coords applied, the whole map is offset and the UV’s don’t match…
I thought it might be some issue with Photoshop files, so I saved a JPG from PS, and same result…
Why would this happen?

Thanks!

I have had sent an upload link a while ago, would you mind checking your PM here on Cineversity?

I will have a look into it ASAP.

Cheers

Thanks for the file, Alex.

Please check your PM for a link to download your fixed file. (PM)

I have build up the scene with the parts in the folder, and from there, I get a nice texture—no difference between jpg or psd.

Comparing the OBJ based and the C4D UV topography, I can’t see anything that matches. It is a completely new UV. Like the UV pack option had been used.
(This could be done while patching the texture in a completely new way, but that is not needed nor wanted here. Loss of quality would be one reason to avoid it.)

Note that I have rotated the object RB -100º in the Attribute Manager, which is not related to the problem nor needs to stay that way.

When I add in the BP> Layer Tab> Function> New layer, the UV stays untouched. I had to test it, just in case. Worked fine here.

Let me know if that works for you now.

My best wishes for your project.

Hey Sassi

Thanks!  It works, but I’m really unclear what happened between the original texture and my new one…The only operation I did (at least that was not accidental) was to select some polygons on the mesh to identify areas of the UV map/texture that I needed to paint over.
Do you think I did some kind of unintentional operation?

Thanks again!

Nice that it works for you, Alex.

I’m not clear what happens if so I would love to share it.

I made a screenshot of the two UV mashes and compared then in Photoshop, rotated it, mirrored it, no match. Since I stitch a lot of images manually (at least 500 images per month), based on that, I have a trained eye for such patterns, but I couldn’t find a single matching island. This led me to the idea that it was newly (UV) packed.
An accidental move of some UV polygons looks different. If you have that again, perhaps take advantage of the autosave/back up options in the preferences.

Cheers

Strange!  Well thanks so much for looking into it and making the PSD work!
Have a great evening!  I hope you are safe in LA with all the fires…

Thanks a lot, Alex.

The fires are far enough away. We had them much closer in the past years (below a mile). But yes, all in all, California is quite under fire-siege at the moment. No fun. It is getting a little bit cooler (compared to the 106ºF we had lately), which is good. But yes, there is so much more going on right now.
I can only hope that we are all soon out of this nightmare.

Anyway, we’re healthy, and that is what counts the most in my book.

You and your loved ones stay safe to stay healthy as well.
