Scene scale issues…

Hi,

Quick question.

I’m trying to model a small scene in terms of inches using real-world measurements.  After I set my “units” preference to inches, quit and relaunch C4D (not sure if that’s still necessary but I do it) and then start a new scene, my default cube object comes in at 78.74 inches (which seems like it’s converting from 200cm, the usual default.)

I’d like for the default to be more like 2 inches, and for that to “work” with the grid, if that makes sense—right now if I make the cube 2 inches the grid is huge and everything is hard to work with.)

Thanks for any advice on setting up these preferences.

Best,
Biagio

Hi Biagio,

Go to Main Menu>Edit>Project Settings>>Attribute manager>Project Settings> Project Scale and set this to 0.01

Is it working now for your needs?

You don’t need to restart after changing that. BTW., you can set the Grid in different ways as well. Edit window menu>Edit>Configure All>> Attribute Manager> Back> World Grid.

Scaling later of the complete scene is an option, but starting out right seems always a better idea.

All the best

Thanks so much, Sassi!

That is about 90% of it, and if that’s where I need to start, I can certainly manage.

Only question:  now when I just choose a default cube and drop it in, it comes in at .787 inches.  Anyway I can tell cinema 4d to make that be 2 inches, or a round number?  Or will it always convert from a centimeter base?

Thanks,
Biagio

You’re welcome Biagio,

In the Project settings, have you left the units there on “cm” or set to “inch” as well?

I get a nice 2 inch cube here.

BTW,. there is always the way to reset the defaults for specific objects:

Attribute Manager>Edit>“Set as default…” (after you have had set your cube for example.

Have a nice weekend

Perfect! It was project settings still at cm.  That did it. Thanks so much!
