Modeling a Toy Race Car Track with Rail Splines

Hi Doc -

I’m in the midst of attempting to model a race car track using rail splines (per the instructions in the following tutorial):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pvH4UUHeMw

I’ve succeeded in creating rail splines that work on the 2 end sections of track, but I can’t get the rail spline to work at all for the loop part of the track.  Can you please help me solve this issue and succeed in rotating my loop so that it looks like an actual toy race track loop?

Also, once the 3 sections of track are all in good order, I will want to connect them so they are a single piece of track.  Can you please let me know the simplest way to do this?

I’ve attached my scene file for you to work with.

Thanks very much for your help!

Mark

Doc, for some reason my 232 KB C4D file is not attaching to this topic.  I’ll try once more here, but if it won’t attach, would you mind opening up a way for me to share it?  Thanks!

Hi Mark,

Please have a look here:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/bwRAbmmB7cnyqIlHTrNnFXEAxMwr4gsnMWbGI0fMUAf

Let me know if that works for you.

Typically a follow-up question (race-track) over the past 16 years was then that the car didn’t stay on the track. If that is a problem, please let me know. (Three point.)

Enjoy, stay safe, stay healthy.

Doc, as always, you solved my problem.  Looks like you removed the rail spline for the loop altogether and used the original Helix in combination with the converted Helix to achieve what I wanted.  I don’t understand how you did it, but thank you for showing me the way.  Also, I see how useful that Connect object is.  Since this will be a still image, I don’t have a need for getting a car to stay on the track…at least for now.  smile

Thanks!

You’re very welcome, Mark, thanks for the feedback.

Here is a file with two of the options to create a loop. One was already in the file above, and the other one uses just the parameter Movement, to create that shape.

My best wishes for your project.
