Animating inside a motion clip

Hello

I have a simple character animation (arms going up) that I made into a motion clip and I’ve put two copies in the TL, one moving forward and one moving backward so I can ping pong the animation.
Now I realize I need to have the character to an additional move (spin on himself), but only in the first motion clip.  Is there a way to edit the motion inside the motion clip but keep another motion clip identical?
Maybe I need to make a copy of the original animation and just edit that?

Thanks

Hi Alex,

I guess you have excluded a Pivot Object for that rotation. Besides this, or a copy of the clip, this option is given:

Animation Clips (relative/absolute)
https://help.maxon.net/us/index.html#36838
more:
https://help.maxon.net/us/index.html#33015
(Scroll half the way down.)

In a nut-shell, it is just a layer on top of the Motion Clip.
To move it, “Right Mouse Click” on the Layer (the word on the left) to Convert it.

However, if each character has its own copy of the clip, why not use a second clip and mix it to the character who has to change?

Cheers

This is quite interesting.  I need to dive into the docs a bit more, and probably read up on the pivot object.
Have you recorded any tutorials on the motion clips?

Hi Alex,

Yes, to know this system will undoubtedly be well-invested time.

I have done a complete series about it, but it was more to expand its use into Motion Graphics, or other complex animations, to have the main weight on art direction, instead of to technical director work. Yes, that needs some prep, but then the fun parts start, and it should get better the closer the deadline comes.
Here is the series:
https://www.cineversity.com/vidplaylist/animation_techniques_for_teams/animation_techniques_for_teams_part_01_course
My main idea was here to use a specific hierarchy, which can be designed in any way but must be kept after that. This allows us to work in teams on even very sophisticated animations, and adjust otherwise keyframe monsters with ease.
It doesn’t focus at all on character animation!

A series about the Animation Clips and Motion System is here:
https://www.cineversity.com/vidplaylist/mixamo_to_cinema_4d_character_workflow/mixamo_to_cinema_4d_character_workflow_series_introduction
You might find that he does something things differently than I have suggested in the past, e.g., placing Mixamo joints under a Null, then create the clip. He does it with the first joint. Anyway, both ways are working fine.

Kai did a tutorial on Animation clips (relative/absolute), but I can’t find it. Sorry about that. I hope my little clip helped.

All the best

Thanks Sassi!
Yes your clip helped, and the links are very useful
I also looked at this QuickTip from Jonas Pilz,
https://www.cineversity.com/vidplaytut/how_to_create_variations_of_mixamo_animations
but I’m confused by something : is he creating an additional control rig on top of the existing rig to be able to modify the character in combination with the joint animation already in place?  I find that a bit confusing…Not exactly a motion clip question but related smile

Thanks!

Hi Alex,

The Mixamo rig takes over but allows for animations of the original rig. In other words, you gain more control, as with IK, but also more complexity.

I would check out the option with a copy first, and stress tests the setup.

To see what does what, see the list in the Weight Manager. There is no Mixamo Joint in that list with any weight, only the Character Joints.
