Fading out dynamics

Hello

I have an object that is being affected by dynamics, but at a given moment I’d like to “fade out” the dynamics and have the object end up in a given, keyframed position.
Is that possible?

Thanks!

Hi Alex,

Two ways I would like to suggest, not knowing your current project at all.

The first is based on some kind of overwriting the Dynamic, which can be done gradually. Dynamic Tag> Attribute manager> Force: Follow Position/Rotation. Where bu the Dampening takes energy from the Dynamic.
A short screen-capture:

The other option, which I think is much better to direct, is based on Animation-Clips. You create an Animation-Clip (Animation> Add Animation Clip. Incl. Expression) from the dynamic setup. The Dynamic Tag can be afterwards disabled/deleted.

With this motion stored, the animation can then be set up with a new object, matching for a while the movement, then follow the wanted direction. This Animation will be baked as well into an Animation Clip.
Both Clips can be now mixed and edited (even cut) to get the wanted result. Note that each Clip (right mouse click) can be opened in the F-Curve Manager and edit as you like.
However, I would always make a copy of the original clip first.

Let me know if that works for you.

Cheers

Hey Sassi!

Thanks, as always your solutions are like mini-lightbulbs going off in the brain…
I like the second solution a lot, but I have a small issue.  When I do some keyframe animation after I’ve created the motion clip, it puts the second motion clip on a different layer, and I can’t drag it back to the original layer…How do you combine them on the same layer in the timeline?

Thanks!!!!

You’re very welcome, Alex; I’m glad one of the suggestions works for you.

At the moment you open the Timeline for the Motion System, you will have on the left side a Library, where all loaded clips are listed, drag the one you need from there into the track that has your target object’s name in it.

Let me know if you need more information on that.

All the best
