Clamp constraint question

Heya, I have this surface with hot4d as an ocean. I clamp an null on it and all works as expected.
My question is, is there a way to have less of rotation?
My cylinder object should follow rotation but in much less degrees so its more calm. I tried stacking various PSR constraints with different strengths (without having it as a child of the null) but i run into some issues of resetting timeline and cylinder go in a different rotation.
Take a look and let me know whats possible:

Thanks a lot!

Hi thanulee

Here is your file back.

I agree, to have it placed on a single point of the wave-mesh, makes it feel like it has no mass nor any inertia.

To get the wave feeling it should go up and down with the waves, but the rotation should follow differently. Adjusting it with more information is much easier. A three-point setup (pos, target, and up-vector) is the way to go. You can pick any point that is closer or any position with more distance. If it is closer (target as well up-vector), the reaction to the waves will be more direct. With a larger distance, the responses are tamed.

Keep the 90º between the target and up vector!

As a side note, Houdini setups do not need a specific plugin for each and every solution.

This is typically the direct way to go.

All the best

You’re very welcome, thanulee, thank you very much for the kind feedback!

Just in case;:

The mesh for the “buoy” could be smaller in this case. Or use the file “…_21.c4d”

P.S.:

The strength of the wave to buoy movement can be adjusted with the Surface Deformer> Object> Scale.

Just one more option:  “…_31.c4d”

Since I have had never used the plugin from your scene, I had to test it a little bit longer to share the versions of post #3 and 4

Enjoy
