Hi, im sure there is something wrong with this geo but i dont seem to understand what.
I try to tear it and it doesnt tear, it gives me the effect like it has no cloth surface on top.
Any thoughts? thanks

Hi thanulee,

Nothing wrong with the scene, it works fine here. But you are viewing it with all the edges visible.

The Tear doesn’t really create parts of the object, it shows in the rendering where the pieces are, and where no polygon will be after the tear has happened.

I do not have Octane, so I’m not clear if there is the problem perhaps. (Render a preview with the standard renderer.)

Here is your file back (I have set it to editor 5fps, to see the tear more in detail):

Use the Weight-map to art direct the tear more in detail.

Cheers

P.S.: this soft tea pot looks like an Alice in Wonderland version, perhaps a Voronoi Fracture might be considered here as well. However I do not know your target, though.

You’re welcome, thanulee.

Yes, I saw that as well. Then I made my changes, as you have them in the file and all was fine.

Here is the Voronoi version:

Yes, that was the first thing I did, thanulee. If I get a model with this, I check the normals, and if they are in working condition, I get rid of the tag.

Since I can’t tell how your scene reacts inside Octane, I was left with some insecurity. Take for example the scene-file that works for you: Switch off the Cloth Object. Press the play button, now the scene is back where you had the problems. I can’t tell if Octane can work with the Cloth Object.

On the other hand, the Normal tag seems to disable something that the Cloth Object does. There is no documented problem and indeed not a single note about the ‘why’ this is. But obviously, there is a problem.

Here is a screen capture of the three different states, only one is working.

Sending back a file to you that I saw working here, generated more information about. You deduction, after comparing the scene files (I assume) that the Normal Tag is in the center of the problem makes it clear now, independent obviously from Octane. Thanks for the feedback.

I hope your project is now back on track.

ENJOY
