Dear reader,

The shape I made with 3 atom arrays is for a 3D print. I tried several times to convert it to a single shape (watertight) to export for a stl file.
Can you help me with this shape and can you tell me how to get an array into a shape without the lines and sphere adges on the inside.
(tried it with editable, boole combine the shapes and connect and delete)

Thanks in advance!

Kind Regards,
Michiel van der Velden

Hi Michiel,

Edit: with the new release the Volume modeling should do the trick /edit.

Here is an alternative, see file below:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/HjbGFs7EAsYrC1QC075YatyEUJ8zD4BXCH1hRPugoPz

The Pyramids needed to be merged, and the floor of two to be deleted, points optimized.
Then one can harvest with the Mesh>Commands> Edge to Spline the “contour”.
With a interpolation of 64 linear, Current State To Object, and set to a scale of 100
The Metaball was set to 50% 50cm to start with.
A very dense mesh was the result.
The application “Instant Mesh” was then used to get a low density mesh, and that was scaled down then.

A little variation of the workflow which captured a “Primitive to Scaffold” procedure:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/HYbUN9IYjMAko8H7n6LLdn7vXmbsuSRKo7bw5Cjcg14

One could place in the thicker parts some little objects with a Metaball Tag and a negative value to get smaller “corners.

This shape needs a powder or fluid based printing, or you have to set a scaffold around it.

If you model it, think about that you have to model only an 1/8th of it. Anything else is repetition.

All the best

P.S:

Here is a modeled version. I left the main steps in, start to end/top to bottom.

From my experience with several print houses, this resolution should work. The last company that I have used offered also a polishing of the powder based result.

My best wishes

P.S.: a much simpler way than in the tutorial below was used here, but often the idea is the same, create on edges the information one needs
