Hi,

Is there way to make hairs in dome shape…? I tried brush scale option, from front view it fine but from right view it snot happening. In hairs, is there way like soft selection so I can grab middle pint and other selected point also move…?

here is ref and c4d screen shot.

I hope you understand.

Thanks,
Imran.

Hi Imran,

Perhaps the simplest way is to cut it with an object, please have a look at the screen capture

I will go thought more options, but I guess that should do the trick. It is the first time I get this specific question. Time to explore.

Besides that, the problem with any “Hair Move Tool” is, that it can’t extend the length. This must be done with the scale setting of the, e.g., Hair Scale or Brush for example. If the Brush is set to Pressure> Radius and the Mode to Scale, then you can do something, but it is not really a fine geometric result. I try to illustrate that below:

The Soft Selection option did not result in anything that compared to your image.

I would go with a more interactive and repairable procedure.

Please have a look at this file below:

You can change the parameters and the shader in the Hair Material> Scale tab.

More about this:
https://help.maxon.net/us/#MHAIRMATERIAL-HAIRMATERIAL_GROUP_SCALE

Let me know if that works for your purposes.

A Vertex Shader can do that perhaps more to your liking.

Soft Selections might help:

But I’m not really convinced about it for the task at hand here.

All the best

A more technical, but perhaps a more advanced way for the demanding Art Director with XPresso. wink

Please have a look at the screen capture and the scene file:

As before I built the XPress-set-up from what is given (on the left) along the processing (in the middle) to the results (on the right). After using Xpresso from its early days, this is the way it keeps me on top of things, even with old file I can read the set up quickly.

ENJOY

P.S.:

If the hair dome is for illustrations only, as in still photography, please have a look here

Screen capture for the adjustment options and a scene file

For a better viewing experience, please download the clip #471.

Perhaps that is all you need, but from there, we can harvest the splines, just a fraction of it, and go from there, which allows to use any point tool that works with Spline points.
Have a look here:

Besides that, here is an XPresso idea:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/4uMducU1Zf9oU70TwjI1suIZ0LSpwwil4Ko7V3xvob8
Move the midpoint!

It misses a few options of the Hair Object, but it is easy to control, and you get the “brush” you are looking for in a short time.

Edit: Sunday evening, and playing with some ideas. Here is one, it uses the minimal Python amount possible, and all there is needed to know for this process is in the screen capture. (Yes, Python can write segments and adding points, but that is not my focus here nor wanted. I hope it helps to set up any shape for a brush needed.
