FCurve Reset Issue

My problem may be an easy fix, but I have been dealing with it for years and have never figured it out. It’s related to FCurve adjusting. Let’s say I have an object in my scene, and I move it from left to right (x) across the stage. I then want to adjust the easing, so I open the FCurve editor and adjust the tangent (x) to create the desired effect. The problem is when I decide later to change the position (x) and key; it resets the tangent. Is it possible to stop this auto reset? I have tried all the tangent locks, and they do not prevent the reset.

Thank you!

Hi Devoted,

If you need to keep the handles of the keyframe, then you can’t use the set keyframe buttons, as they produce a fresh new keyframe.

Any adjustments need to be done in the F-Curve Manager or in the Dope-Sheet.

What you need to do is to go to the Animation Mode

Here is a little demo of how it works: screen-capture

That’s pretty cool, different workflow for me but it looks like I need to retrain myself to work your way. Thank you very much!

You’re very welcome, Devoted, thanks for the reply.

Personally, I love to mess directly in the F-Curve, but the Animation mode is kind of more straight forward. I guess it boils all down, as you mentioned to ‘habit’. Others might even prefer the Reduced modification mode or also the ripple edit.

Enjoy your weekend
