multiple compositing tags on a single mesh item

Is there a way to apply multiple compositing tags to a single contiguous mesh and use polygon selection tags to assign parts of the mesh to the compositing tags? Seems if you try to apply a second compositing tag to a mesh it overwrites the existing tag

Cheers

Hi AK,

That’s how it works. Sorry, no idea.

What do you want to do in the first place?

Cheers

Simplifying a complex scene and baking down some complex geometry into single mesh items. Was using Compositing Tags with matte object activated to create an object ID pass fairly quickly when I need it.

Cheers

Please have a look at the clip, AK, to get an overview.

I assume the “Sub-Objects” in your merged object are each single polygon objects, each with one specific selection.

The Voronoi Fracture object can “read” this information. With a simple if Id is equal formula line, it is easy to select a specific information.

To connect that with a specific Selection Tag is also pretty straight forward. All is based on IDs given by the Voronoi Fracture object.
If there is no selection for an object, create one with all polygons selected, to keep things in sync. However, the Selections can be set manually if needed.

One minute overview, and the scene file:

A similar question was asked today here:
https://www.cineversity.com/forums/viewthread/2747/#10515
Which would require for a merged object to be separated and merged with a cloner. (Perhaps Fix Clone set to off, if the axis of each part is not the same)

All the best
