Redshift: Exclude/Include in RS Object tag on RS Dome Light not working (or any other setting in the tag)

I don’t know what else to say. It simply does nothing. I’m trying to exclude a plane from the dome light but no matter what setting inside of the RS Object tag I use it does absolutely nothing. I’m being completely fair when I say that this is pathetic.

Does anyone have a workaround for this absurdly pathetic malfunction of one of the most fundamental functions of this software?

Thanks in advance.

Hi gonza045,

Questions are better answered when a project file is given. (Reduced to the problem and zipped, then attached).

If you exclude an object with the include/exclude list of a light source, any other object might work as a light source, then (GI)

You can exclude this from receiving GI or being seen on a Secondary Ray, but that sets perhaps limits for other light sources for you.

Typically if it gets too complicated inside the scene, you need to render out passes and compose the result.

Anyway, without a project file, the guessing could go on for a while, so I stopped here, but here is a simple file that showcases some concepts.

Hi, Dr. Sassi,

Thanks for the reply! I tried to exclude receiving GI, Secondary, Shadows, etc. None of them have any effect. I rendered in picture viewer just to confirm that no effect was occurring. The scene is pretty simple so I’m going to try to attach it here or upload to WeTransfer if it’s too large. I’ve included the assets in the file to ensure the exact scene is being referenced.

I do appreciate you looking into this as it’s a problem I’ve had for a long time but never have had time to address.

Gabriel

The file is 130mb so here’s the we transfer link..

Hi Gabriel,

Please check your Private Messages here. Place the file after unzipping it into your project folder so it connects back to the textures.

Light goes now only to the “Fracture” object. Any other “light” that you see is a reflection.

Let me know if that works for you.

All the best

Hi, Dr. Sassi,

Thanks for sorting out the issue here! It seems as though the exclude/include in the RS Render Tag do not work if the object has a native exclude/include feature in the project tab of the attributes manager. Certainly good to know going forward.
