Take system. Heavy project files and slow viewport speed

I’ve got a large project with several takes and I need to hide top level models in my tree between the different takes and i’m using the traffic lights to do that. However, my assemblies are very large and my system remains very slow as long as those assemblies are present in my object tree. Hiding one or the other using the traffic lights helps, but it’s like the one i’m hiding is still in memory somewhere. Is there a feature i’m missing that can take them out of system memory for a specific take?

Thank you.

Hi lthompson,

Do you use the Layer Browser?

All the best

Hi Dr. Sassi,
I’m not using layers for my top level assemblies, but I am for sub-assembly components. Many components are common across the two that I want control of. I’m using traffic lights for my top level assemblies. Does disabling layers in the viewport and render view have better performance compared to disabling using traffic lights? I supposed I could create another parent object with a dedicated layer, opposed to using traffic lights, but it complicates my tree.

Thank you.

Hi lthompson,

The traffic lights handle the visibility.

In Attribute Manager> View Settings> Hud> Frames per second: ON
This provides you with feedback on how fast the frame is refreshed.

Take a sphere, place it under a Cloner, set it to 12x12x12 clones, and place a Ridged Body tag on the Cloner.
Place a cube below as Collider.

Press play.

Make them invisible, and press play.

With the Layer Browser, you have very specific options to shut things down.
