Hi,

Any tutorial to understand…. difference in Frame Rate and Frame Step and how does it effects in animation…?

In 480 frames, I set 0 frame step, frame rate 30 and it renders all frames. When set Frame Setup 20 it renders only 23 frames… how its calculation…?

I saw manual… sorry, not clear to understand.

Thanks,
Imran.

Hi Imran,

• In the Attribute Manager>Project, you see the frame rate of the project: FPS.

• In the Render-Setting, the Frame Rate is how many Frames per second the footage will get.

Are these two numbers matching in your project?

Please share a file; no objects are needed, just the file with the render and project settings.

Cheers

Hi Imran,
As I mentioned, the key is to know also the FPS of the project.
Without the file, I have to assume that it is the same.

0-479 equlals 480 frames.
If every 20st frame is rendered, you get 24 frames. 20x24=480

All the best

20x24=480
from where this 24 came…?

And for smooth animation how many FPS or Frame Step needed…?

Thanks.

Hi Imran,

Thanks for the file. When you wrote that it renders only 23 frames in the first post, it indicated that the project was set to 32 fps while the footage was set to 30. Other combinations might be possible, though.

A project file with 23 would look like this:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/swpA46jXXvQPdc35esSKz94etEd219QuIdBrVCjpzHI

=======

I see now that it wrote frames 0-23, which is 24 frames. Frame 0 is already one frame. Simplified said a frame sequence 0-1 is two frames.

Please find below the screen-shot (image) that explains the math. Perhaps 480/20=24. (0 to 479 equals 480)

All the best

thanks a bit clear now.

one thing… when frame range define 0 to 479 then then why 20 Frame step needed, 30 FPS already given…?

Thanks.

Imran,

Frame Steps are used to get an idea of a long rendering while rendering only a few images.

A Frame Step of 20 renders frame 0, ignores (does NOT render) frame 1-19, then 20 is rendered, the next 19 (21 to 39) frames are not rendered, then the next frame (40) is rendered.

If you do not want to skip frames, leave the Frame Step to 1.

The best practice, keep the Project and Footage frame rate the exact same. Leave the Frame Step at 1.

Let me know what you want to do.

All the best

Thanks for the extra information, Imran.

I was already working on a screen-capture.
Just in case someone else will find it helpful, here it is:
