Add thickness to a cross sectioned mesh

Hello, I am trying to create a cross section of a mesh (Zygote anatomy) to show the interior. If I use Boolean, it works great to make the cut, but the mesh has no thickness. The first image is the cut mesh with thin walls, and the second is what I’m aiming at. I’m out of solution.. I tried using the new mesher tool in R23 not working too well on that, then tried to use Mograph Voronoi, can’t get to do what I want… Any thoughts? plugin?

thx!

Marc.

Hi markyyy40,

One way would be to use Volume with “Dilate and Erode”:

It needs a certain point density, but that usually is not a problem to create.

Let me know if you have any questions about it. I’m happy to look into it.

Perhaps you cut a small piece of the model, so you can share this part, and we go from there.

All the best

Hello Dr. Sassi, thx for the quick response. I am sharing Frontal and Maxillary sinus, with the boolean operation I performed on them.

I will look into your demo, which looks pretty much like what I would need to acheive.

Thx!

So after fiddling with it, I ended up keeping my boolean object that I put in the mesher object, so i can keep the editability. Even though it’s not perfect yet, the result is pretty convincing! wink

Thank you so much for your help!.

Cheers!

Hi Marc,

Thanks for the file and for using DropBox.
Great that you see an option with it.

I explored this as well a little bit.
My suggestion
• After the Boole, use the Mesh> Add> Smooth Subdivision.
• Use the Smooth Deformer for more options as a child of the polygon object.
• A Smooth Deformer could be applied on top of it.

A part of your object,

My best wishes for your project
