Hello all,

New around here. can’t seem to get rid of the ghosting around this label. Alpha leak? Tried jpeg, png, tiff, photoshop in both color and alpha channels. Checked black levels. Feeling really stupid. Please help.

Hi Mitch,
I will leave this upload link here for a moment only; please share the minimal scene and images to reproduce this.
I will get an email when the files are uploaded, no further action needed.
Link removed

Two things that come often, if Alpha information is used to mask an already “transparent” based image, it might cause trouble.

Alpha is always an information source, not an image, and should have no gamma at all.

Cheers

Thanks for the Project file, Mitch, but without any image files, I can’t really tell you anything.

Cheers.

Hi Mitch,

Please have a look here:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/1RswE9YsEdeEFNq9eA4vwMR3jlc5khuBQgwfFI186Rc

The main part of your jar holds in this file an alpha channel. Your object is twice in this file. One is named Problem, and the other is called Solved. Render both separately, do not change the view. Or just look at the two screenshots in the folder. Can you see the difference?

I have only replaced the Material “Altered Ice” which, to my surprise, seems to be damaged. I replaced it with the exact same parameters, and the “solved” version works. I have, in the past 23+ years, not seen anything like that with Cinema 4D.

Here is a little exploration and how it shows up more with low resolution images.

Since I had no textures/images, I used my own. However, I assume (for now) that it is not based on any of those. IF you want to share or store your project, use the file> Save Project with Assets… option.

If you have any other question, please let me know, I’m happy to look into it.

All the best

P.S.:

As I have mentioned, I haven’t seen at any time a problem with a material with this problem. So I explored it deeper and was surprised how the ProRender showed the file. Which lead me [CV2_S22_drs_20_TXal_01b.c4d] to set up the UV newly. With a clean none tiling UV, I was not able to produce the problem as shown in Screen-capture anymore. I was able to use the material that showed problems before. Not any longer.

Which lead to file [CV2_S22_drs_20_TXal_11.c4d]. Around 2000 to 2002, I made around 200 packages designs and visualized most of them (The Munich film industry was down, something needed to be worked on).
From that time I love to set the bottle/jar label on its own geometry, which is more work, but somehow it gives that little paper thickness, which I like more than have it all super thin. This separates the materials, and I could focus on one UV[W] at the time.

I can’t shake the feeling that the texture is tiled internally in the problem file, but not visible, however, it seems to alter the ray-calculation.

Have a look if that works with the set up you run.
