Getting Clones to Sample an Object’s Color

Hello,

I am cloning many planes to the surface of an object. I would like the clones’ colors to somehow sample the color of the surface point on which they sit. With the example I’m using I know it would be easy to use Spherical Projection on the Cloner. I’m not looking for a texture projection, but rather one color. Would this be possible with an Effector, XPresso, or a script perhaps?

My scene file is here:

Thank you!

Hi blastframe,

Please have a look at the file below.

I have placed the Gradient into a new material, so I can access it. The Material sits in a second texture Tag to the Sphere, and the Material [Texture] Tag has an X in it. (I assume no selection of the Sphere will be named X) In that way, the Material has no influence on the Object, but the color values can be taken. The Refection Channel is not used In MoGraph for this.

The scene is set up to get comparable values. Which means that I excluded any light positions. The Reflectance of the objects will otherwise return different “ideas” about it. Flat vs. spherical/Phong.

I hope that makes sense. If there is a question, please let me know, I’m happy to look into it.

All the best, stay safe, stay healthy.
