When using a bend deformer, the object disappears during certain frames.

I’m using a bend deformer and animating it, and the camera, and it is going well for the most part, but for a frame the bend deformer and the thing it is modifying disappear. They then pop back for a frame. This happened a long time ago using a Boole, and I’m using a boole in this instance too, so I wonder if that might have something to do with it. Any insight would b helpful.

Hi jason,

Please share the file, just the parts that are critical for this to reproduce.
It needs to be a zip file for the forum. (DropBox, Amazon, Google, Apple, or Adobe are cloud services I touch, please no shortened URLs.)

OR use the file here and try to recreate this problem:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/IfTw1T8VJZmecQMVG26Hmgxs5Znej4lNMCQrz9eDXsG

Does the problem stays after unchecking the Hide New Edges, or does it persists after changing the segment/polygon amount of the objects?

Thanks.

Thank you. II subdivided the main geometry, and it seemed to fix it. The viewport really chugs now, but I’m toward the end of the cycle of animating it anyway.

I had the darndest time. I wanted to animate tape unrolling. I found a lot of tutorials online about unrolling carpet and banners, and they all had the round part unrolling, not an end seperating from the main body. What’s more, I had an inner cardboard core for the tape that had to stay in place. I brute forced it, and animated the tape core along with the deformer as it unrolled. I sort of got it.

I’m uploading the file anyway. If you have any insight into a better way to get the tape to unspool, I would be very grateful. Thank you.

Hi jason, (Company name, avatar, or is it Jason?)

I tried several settings, and the “inner core boole”> Rotational Settings work here with 8, 48, 72, 164, but not, for example, with 196. At one point during the rolling, there must be an overlap that causes the vanishing.

I notice a little bump on the lower end of the roll. I would suggest using a Falloff for the “end bender” to take any unwanted influence away.

The file reduced to the problem: (I hope it is OK to leave it here)

Thank you. I was wondering about falloff for the bed deformer. I forgot how to do it, but will look into it more. Jason, is the Project Manager’s name who got a seat of C4D while I work at his office btw.

Thanks for clearing this.

I always use the avatar name as long as I don’t get a different name in the post. I try to keep it as I get it, but sometimes it feels just weird to use no capital letter for a name.

Enjoy your project.
