Those kinds of Fibonacci/Phylotaxis patterns are always lovely. I searched this morning to get this done without formulas. Here you go:

It depends on how close you need to get to them with the camera. If they are the “main-actor”, then have a look at this file: (screenshot; project file

I use MoGraph first, then the Volume options.

If they are just somewhere in the image, and “supporting-actors”, then they might be better done with a simple shape and a material that uses a specific texture to utilize the Alpha channel to create the idea of holes. The Texture can be produced from the file above.

P.S.S.: of course, I wanted to find the fastest modeling workflow for this in polygons. For now, this is my favorite. I have the feeling there is maybe something faster. We will see…

This is based on a small element, which is progressively cloned. This also means, and adjustment to the hole is a one-time adjustment.

This one has a Pose Morph which allows to adjust the hole-shape. Try values between -150% to 150%.

Set up the disc with the needed holes, then use the Current State To Object (preferable from the Connect Object), and scale it to get the required size.
