polygon from points

trying to create a polygon from a selection of points. I have an open-ended cylinder like a drinking glass and I want a round polygon created from a loop selection part of the way up the cylinder, like the surface of water in the glass. I have the selection, how do I make the polygon?

A separate issue, when I try to use the help menu it gives me hundreds of results, too many to sort through for my answer. For the above question I entered “make polygon from points” and got nothing useful. What am I doing wrong?

Hi TJPaul,

The manual doesn’t understand questions, it finds only words that are inside of the text. So, you have done nothing wrong, it is just not able to communicate that way.

I would use the Extrude option [M~T] and then fill either the remaining hole or select all inner points and Weld those [M~Q].

Please be aware that you create a polygon construction that will give you grief along the way. An edge should not be shared with more than two polygons.
If you share your Glass with the selection stored in a Tag, I can take a closer look at it.

Cheers

P.S.: I did not get a file, so here is the quick “How-To” clip. As mentioned, this is not suggested. However, you want it, you get it.

Let me know if I can do anything else!

Here’s the model I made:

I want a polygon to represent the top of the contents of the bowl.

I could also use a tutorial to help with the transparency on the plastic

Hi TJPaul,

Thanks for the file and for using a trusted cloud service!
Here is a screen capture along the process.

I have as well saved the wanted result, you can merge it into your scene.

I have used the Split function, so the flow of Normals is not broken.

Let me know if you have any questions.

All the best
