Infinite Shape Equivalent for the Field System?

Hi,

I’m trying to follow this tutorial.
The provided file here works as expected but I was thinking how it works with the new field system.

The scene ultimate breaks through the infinite shape fall off.
You can see an illustration here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/neqz37unryhyp2x/c4d172_infinite_shape_equivalent_for_fields.jpg?dl=0

I understand it can be done with the native effectors but the essence of the tutorial is getting around with the Python Mograph API.  In addition, the problem above is not the Python Mograph API, its the fields part which I can’t find an equivalent.

Thank you for looking at my problem

Hi Ben,

If there is nothing in the Fields list, then that should be the equivalent of infinity.

I have had set up a little scene in R18 to get this option in R21. When I switch to fields, the Plain Effector does exactly what it should.

Without a scene file, I have no interest in starting any guessing work instead.

I can only suggest exploring what happens if you uncheck the Value Clamping of that Effector, or place a Solid [100%] into the list.

To my knowledge, the author of this tutorial is from time to time in the Developer Forum. You might check there.

All the best.

Hi Dr. Sassi,

Thanks for the response.

RE: Without a scene file, I have no interest in starting any guessing work instead.
It’s in the file link above. It’s in the phrase “The provided file here”. Or are you referring to other scene files?

I tried the “Value Clamping of that Effector, or place a Solid [100%] into the list” but it only restores the color and not the scale/position changes.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Hi Ben,

Yes, I surely missed this, the new colors of the forum certainly don’t show clearly that there is a link, at least not on my monitor (5K, P3 color space). I would suggest avoiding those integrated links.

The problem is clearly written in the Python Script, although I really don’t give any Python support here.
The script works with MoGraph’s Weight. Which is not obsolete, but massively put into the background by Fields.

What needs to be done here is to harvest the Weight values and convert those in anything that can be read by fields.
Here are two examples of how I would do it:

Hi @Dr. Sassi,

Thanks for the file. The one with the weight map works well for me.

RE: new colors of the forum certainly don’t show clearly that there is a link
It shows on my end though. Maybe it’s a browser issue?

But of course, I’ll avoid the integrated links.

Thanks again.
