Recursive Fracturing for Dynamics?

Hi,

Is there a way to have recursive fracturing for dynamics in Cinema4D?

For instance,
1) The Cube Collides with a Sphere.
2) Then the cube shatters.
3) Now the cube shattered pieces collides with the ground
4) Then the cube shattered pieces shatters for more pieces. (Hence the recursive shatter).

Currently, in (4), it doesn’t shatter for more.

You can see an illustration file here:

Is there a way around this?

Hi Ben,

Since you suggested a while ago X-Particles as a solution to a question here, I feel encouraged to do so as well for this question. I usually try to answer with native tools, but since you obviously use this plugin already, this would be the way to go then.

Please have a look here:

The options are certainly preferable.

Using Cinema 4D for this might be not as comfortable as with X-Particles. However, it is possible.

This is a little sketch only. The change of the MoGraph Selection could be different and is set up as an example. You will find your own parameter to trigger.

All the best

Hi Dr. Sassi.

Thanks for the answer. Yes, I am using xParticles. However, it has an inherent problem where the dynamics is based on particles rather than the trusted bullet engine (which I believe Cinema4D uses,  and other DCC uses like Houdini).  Currently, it instances particles for every point of the shattered object, which makes the simulation slow.

Anyhow, thanks for the file. Will play with it.

Have a great day ahead!

You’re very welcome, Ben.

Yes, there is certainly room for improvement. However, I always assume that I might miss something that could make it all happen anyway, although it is not working right now. I’ know that visually, we can do anything these days; it is only a question of how we get there.

There are two parts to this “game”. The first one is typically called the “PIXAR-Button”. (I love The PIXAR-Studio, don’t get me wrong.) It should just work without effort, just push a button or two and done. Which in return would have two consequences, everyone would do it, and with that, the effect would be worn out in no time. If it is a push of a button, why ask a ‘pro’ to do it, “my young niece can do that”.

The other part is, it is not possible, but needed anyway. So creativity kicks in. Working from an audience experience, backward, with cuts, and separated scenes in which sub-steps can be achieved is the way to go. Fooling the audience’s eye, because one understands his/her craft very well and can do “magic”. In the end, it looks effortless and convincing, but not showing the brilliance of the “make it happen anyway” creativity.

We move more and more to the “PIXAR-Button” world. Everything must work right out of the box, and on the highest level of quality possible. We all know what that means if we reach the state of all is done with a click. … and yet, I work hard to get everything as fast and smoothly working for everyone as possible.

Have a great day, as well.
