Random Tracer Amount

Hello,
I have some Radial Cloner Spheres generating Tracing lines.
Is there a way that they are created with a random Tracing amount and not fixed per clone?
Without TPs preferably since this is a complex scene already and a lot happens afterwards.

Best,
Nikos

Hi Nikos,

Do you have a scene file? OR at least a sketch that you would like to have on the end.

Attachments should work again, use Zip (Cloud links: Dropbox, Amazon, Apple, Google or Adobe, anything else – I will not touch)

If you need an upload link, let me know.

I will have a look in the morning into it.

Cheers

Hello Dr.Sassi,

I can send you my scene but via an upload link like you proposed.
There are a lot of stuff happening in it and I would like to keep it private.
I hope you understand.

Best,
Nikos

Alright I saved a small test scene for preview purpose.

So what I am trying is pretty much the Tracer lines to be in different length or reveal separately.

I thought that if I could give each Tracer line a different color and then give them random grey value ramp in Redshift its possible to cheat it.

But I couldn’t manage to convert Sweep to Geometry and keep the animation, I tried Baking and Alembic but it didn’t work out.
(still trying to figure out how to create an Alembic, right click the objects then Bake to Alembic doesn’t work for me)

So I went with Matrix + Cloner combo on witch I could use Fields but was really heavy and the TPs were doing Motion Blur bugs.

Is there a way to give them different color or separate them while keeping the animation?

Best,
Nikos

Hi Nikos,

Just to understand your target, this (link below) is what you are after?
Scene files:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/0nQ4UwPpCD7G4TTKLgye8kOUBmvJ3lKKicohNR9K9qz
The file that uses Hair needs to be rendered to be visible.

It sounded like you missed the information: I will have a look in the morning into it. It was close to 1am last night. Hence I was not online after my reply. (My time zone is GMT -8 or Summer -7)
Typically I look into more complex scenes when something is broken or if it does not functioning in the way it should. I’m not really into this “behind the scene work”. I understand my contribution here in the same sense that Cineversity has, in general, to educate.
But yes, in case of trouble I do it, of course. I like to help, to the benefit of everyone, if possible.
I believe in the forum’s idea, to solve a problem, or create a solution for a problem that can be visible for everyone. Which requires to share with anyone reading along, hence the example file you have sent is excellent.

All the best

Yes Thank you Dr.Sassi, the Hair Shader works perfectly, that’s exactly what I wanted.
The other example is kinda intimidating for my level smile

You’re very welcome, Nikos.

I was, of course, exploring this morning what else would be possible, as promised.

I’m glad you can work with the Hair-setup. Note that I have changed the Color variations and Length Variations in the Material.
If you have finished the project, let me know what I can do to make you feel comfortable with the other setups. I understand that your focus is currently to get your project working.

You mentioned Thinking Particles, and that you like to avoid this for now. I have used TP here only to sort the MoGraph generated Particles into five groups. These groups go then into five Tracers. each Tracer has a different setting.
Perhaps you have a second to check it out, and we come later back to it. If you like.

Besides, in X-Particles, the xpTrail, has that variation option. Just to cover this as well.
