Anchor Camera to a Keyframe?

Here’s my problem:

I have an animation and two cameras. The second camera cuts at Frame 10.
However, if I changed the duration of the animation to Frame 11. The second camera will be out of sync. I want the second camera to “anchor” to the original Frame 10, which is now Frame 11.

Is this possible? Or are there any other alternatives to this?

Thank you for looking at my problem.

Hi bentraje,

You need to use the Timeline> Edit> Region Tool.

Alternative
If you like to have an object animation in sync with a camera animation, they must be combined. This is done with a hierarchy that is then baked into an animation clip. If the clip is then stretched to a different duration, all parts that have proper keyframing will stay in sync. Every Animation clip has a Spline curve, which allows for an adjustment. However, no Frame value input here.

Another option
You can write the animation with the camera into an Alembic file, and then adjust both with the Speed parameter at the same time. This parameter can be animated, but it is not measured in frames either.

If all three won’t work, there is no direct option like this, and I wouldn’t even encourage a function like this, as it could easily overwrite other keyframes. If such ‘anchoring’ would be done often, it needs to be super clear; otherwise it will destroy soon or later the existing animation (think of opening a file again after a month or working in teams.) Some things are just needed to be done, from where I look at it.

@Dr Sassi

Thanks for the response

RE: Timeline> Edit> Region Tool.
I know this tool but this does not fit my need. Basically, I have to select all the keys and move it. Its a bit cumbersome. For instance, I have to three characters with three cameras. I have select all of them in the timeline whenever I have to make the adjustment.

RE: baked into an animation clip
Cannot be. I’m still in roughing out. Baking out is counterproductive if I had to do it back and forth.

RE: animation with the camera into an Alembic file
Same thing. above about baking

I’m thinking of a ripple edit in an NLE. Say you have 10 minutes timeline. You drop a footage on 2 minute mark. Then all of the track gets extended/adjusted up to 12 minute.
No fuss.

There’s a ripple edit in the timeline but again it requires everything to be at present in the timeline. I just need to do it immediately when a factor is changed (say a keyframe is moved)

Bentraje,

Perhaps explore Timeline> Bookmarks. (It is certainly better than the Selection Object method in this case.)

I know what you like to do, but there is no option as quick and directly as you wish to have it. I gave you a few ways to do it, as with the Animation Clip.
If you take the footage example, that is pretty much the Animation Clip. With the footage, you cannot independently change the camera or the actors’ move independently. Same thing. However, I understand what you want.

Other than that, there is no option to my knowledge.

Cheers

@Dr. Sassi

No worries. Thanks for the confirmation. I have another idea but I think I’ll have it in another thread since it warrants to be on a separate topic.
Thanks again!

Oh. There is actually a suggestion form.
It’s present when you file a ticket suppot. If you expand the dropdown “category” or something like that, the suggestion is at the bottom of the list
