Make time-offset plain effector play nicely with render-instances?

Hoping someone could take a look at this issue.

Short version:
In mograph, how can I make time-offset plain effector play nicely with render-instances / multi-instances?

Long version:
I plan to have a large grid of clones (6x84). Each clone contains animated geometry. I want to use time offset to progressively animate the clones as triggered by a series of plain effectors. I have the effector stack working correctly. But I have run into an issue when using render-instances, where all clones animate simultaneously, rather than honoring the falloff.

Here’s is a screen recording of the issue: (dropbox)

and here is a zip of the project file: (dropbox)

Some help here would be very appreciated

Hi Nathan 123,

Please have a look here:
https://help.maxon.net/us/#OINSTANCE-ID_OBJECTPROPERTIES?highlight=Render,instances

Scroll down a little bit.

I hope that answers it, if not, please let me know. (Edit: I get a #404 for the files. /edit)

All the best

P.S.:
I have had answered last night around midnight, just to give you the required information. In the morning, I checked, and the links you had given provided me with a #404 site. So, no idea what you need directly.

Here is a file:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/EftesE9cxDd1A0ReAwl0dDwVo9NBrvZr9cdSUJYwYGg

This is a workaround, where the animation cycle is split into key positions. The Cloner is set to Sort, and the Effector is using its Modify Clone parameter to cycle through the sequence. (On Layer 01, you will see the original file with the animation, I harvested the poses from it, via CSTO [Current State To Object].

The downside of this method is that there is zero motion-blur possible, this can be only achieved in post… Any camera-based motion blur will be optional, of course. Of course: Sub-Frame-Motion-Blur will work nearly perfect.

My best wishes for your project.

Dr Sassi, thanks again for your assistance.

Not sure why the links didn’t work, I think maybe the forum trimmed the links somehow. I’ll try wrapping them in code blocks at the end of this post. I think I understand what your example project is doing… at least to a cursory degree. However I think it may not be possible to use this method to achieve my goals, that or I am misunderstanding how it could be retrofitted to my project.

update: also thanks for the link to the entry for render instances, that did answer my question, albeit disappointingly.

Hi Nathan,

I tried the links again, and now I see it. Anyway, I used the new links. Thanks for using Dropbox, something I can trust.

The problem with Render- or Multi-Instances is, that once the first clone is produced, anything else will follow, even if the Linear Field in the Falloff hasn’t yet reached the clone position.

I have put some ideas in this file below:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/kX5OYRAEMI99SJChwy8cbkYgE68X5Imp9Ddvfzhq9zF
(…yes the camera sensor size is way too large, just adapting.)

I have a starting clone, an animation, and ten different end-clones. The animation runs like a loop, the fine details of your animation are not in this sketch of mine. To overcome a little bit the limitations, I copied the clone Groups often twice. Which works a little bit against the Multi-Instances, but I tried to balance the setup.

Not ideal, but the technology of Multi-Instance is just building on the idea to calculate the object only once, with that the limitations are given.

I hope at least something useable is in this file.

My best wishes for your project.
