Multiple Audio Tracks with Take System

I am trying to time out my animation and need to load several VO tracks into Cinema 4D. I have broken the animation into several Takes, and want the different tracks to play on particular Takes. I am having a really difficult time trying to get this to work.

I have tried using multiple Sound Effectors, and this works nice because I can enable/disable their functionality. However, the issue comes when I want to adjust their time offset (when to play the file). I have to go back to my Main take go to the Timeline, click the audio track, then set the start time there. I cannot get to the sound attribute pane unless I’m on the Main take.

I tried changing the Time Offset in the Parameter tab of the sound effector, but this didn’t have any effect on offsetting the sound.

There’s gotta be an easier way with Xpresso/user data? I tried getting my hands dirty with xpresso, but cannot get it to work.

I can’t believe there’s not an easier way to have an audio track and set the start time of the audio track when using the Take System.

Hi Matt,

Create a Null as a Parent for the Sounds. Perhaps click on any parameter to create a keyframe, so it shows automatically up in the timeline (Automatic Mode On).

In the Dope-sheet (Key Frame Timeline), while this Null is selected, go to Create> Add Special Tracks> Sound.

You can add as many of these tracks as you like. Each of them can be switched off or on and has an individual Offset parameter.

But you still have to go back to the main take to adjust their time offset? Just isn’t very intuitive. And how can you enable/disable them depending on what take you’re on?

Yes, it is not comfortable and missing any option to animate, Takes won’t do anything with it.

I have no idea about the timing since the change R18 (yet, I will have to test this with Tracks, but I fear there is currently no way) but how often do you want to change the timing?

The on and off can be done, by placing the sound track only to one object. This object has then to be on its very own Layer. Those Layers have an animation icon (filmstrip). Drag the Layers into the track and switch them on or off as you like.
