Dear reader,
I have made an cue and this is getting all tied up. But when I see the sequence the orientation is not good at frane 24-25. I tried several time to get this right but no succes. Is it the path who is wrong? Can you help me to solve this?
See attached cd4-file.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Michiel,

Here is your file back

Since Splines have pretty much only 2 dimensions for any given point, the orientation is needed for an object is often not sufficient.
To support a proper orientation of an object along the Spline, a Rail provides the needed information. This second Spline works like a Target. Each position of the original Spline has a specific point on the Rail. With that a target which helps to keep the orientation stable.

All the best

Hello Dr. Sassi,
Thanks for your answer.
I tried to change the file with adding the Rail Path but the outcome is not what I expected. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong here?
Is it the axes that I have to change? The file you send is perfect but I can’t change my file so it is the same.
The attached file is where I stopped, you can see the top is not in the good direction.

Also see the Miss-cue_poging3:
almost good but the tip is turning at the end… : (
(the width of the cue is ok for now, I will edit that later)

Thanks for your help.

Kind Regards,
Michiel van der Velden

Hi Michiel,

Please have a look at the screenshot here:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/JClxUIZEsuFfvhhYHZMRrzph28iLtB0SSue0PaZo4Te

If the Spline Rail (Spline.1/green) is identical to the main spline (Spline/red), then the Target is precisely like the origin. Which means, no direction at all. The Rail Spline path needs to be in the distance to the path of the Main-Spline.

In my example above, I selected each point and dragged it into the direction where I wanted to have the target. With this, and with the adjustments of the Bezier-handles, I created a second path, like a train track. Imagine a train would have only a small single beam to run along, it would not go so well. With two paths, the system becomes much more stable.

All the best
